Meet the knowledge requirement by interviewing the taxpayer and asking the client the adequate questions to determine if the taxpayer is eligible to claim the credit(s) and in what amount(s). At the same time, the preparer should document the questions and the taxpayer’s responses in their notes.

  • Complete the checklist based on compliance with due diligence requirements and information provided by your client(s).
  • Keep copies of any documents your client gives you on which you relied on to determine eligibility for, or the amount of, the credits. Keep these records in either a paper or scanned on SmartVault DMS in an electronic format.
